Amazing street art to admire in Bishkek

Share

When you think of things to do in Bishkek, street art may not be at the top of your mind – but if you keep your eyes out, you’ll find cool and colourful street art scattered around the city.

There are fantastic and massive street art murals from talented artists like Basic Colors and DOXA who are prolific around Central Asia.

The annoying thing with street art is that while I can find photos of them online, I can’t find where they are located on the map – vital details that are often left out! But don’t worry, I got you! All the street art listed below all have Google Maps location markers (and coordinates for non-Google Maps users).

Here are the top amazing pieces of street art to admire in Bishkek.

Slam dunk on trash

Slam dunking litter is much better than a basketball, especially in Bishkek and Kyrgyzstan where litter and recycling (or lack of) is an issue.

This piece of street art can be along Toktogul Street near Shopokov Street.

Petal Beauty

Beautiful and tranquil are the best ways to describe this artwork found on a side of an apartment block on Panfilov Street close to Jibek Jolu Ave.

Growing an oasis

A green, colourful piece of a boy planting some greenery for Mother Earth. Unfortunately, this artwork is slowly being chipped and peeled away, much like nature in real life. See it while you still can (both this art piece and real nature). This piece is found in a courtyard of a school.

Watering a city

It takes more than water to grow a city but this boy is on the right track!

This massive and tall art piece is found on the corner of Bokonbayev and Shopokov Streets.

Like a Boss

While it’s not technically outside on the street, I couldn’t help but admire how cool this painting of Krygyz wrestler and sporting hero Baatyr Kaba Uulu Kozhomkul is!

This boss artwork is found inside the Kozhomkul Sport Palace.

Daughter of the digital age

This lovely artwork by DOXA is a modern update of Bishkek local’s Semyon Chuikov’s ‘The Daughter of Soviet Kirghizia’. Instead of rocking a book, the Krygyz girl is rocking a laptop and earphones.

This artwork is found inside school grounds on Chuy Avenue near Gogol Street.

Krygyz flower girl

Another beautiful piece from DOXA, this is a colourful mural of a local Kyrgyz flower girl.

This pretty piece of street art is found inside school grounds on Tynystanov Street.

Cultural beauty

This is a beautiful and cultural piece of art and Kyrgyz history, found on the facade of a travel agency on Chui Ave.

A cheeky princess

Another amazing and cute piece of street art by the DOXA group who are obviously full of talented artists.

This artwork of a cheeky Kyrgyz princess is found outside of the central city.

Special Mention:
Mural memorial

Despite being a colourful and beautiful mural, I wish this piece of street art did not exist because this art piece is also a memorial for a local Kyrgyz girl who was tragically murdered due to the country’s still prevalent tradition of bride kidnapping.

This mural is found inside Bishkek Medical college on Bokonbayev Street.

That’s some of the top amazing street art to be discovered in Bishkek. I’m sure there are other great ones that I have missed or have yet to be made by talented street artists.
