The second largest city in Portugal, Porto is one of Europe’s beautiful and captivating little cities.
It’s a city associated with the creation of Port wine but there is so much more beyond the beautiful Douro river and nearby idyllic hillside vineyards. Fresh local food is abundant thanks to its location close to the sea and countryside.
Mired in natural beauty and culture, Porto is a perfect escape from the crowds. The local beaches are a short bus ride away. A worthwhile experience in Porto would be around three to four days, depending what you would like to see or do – by all means stay awhile in this charming city!
Whether you’re after some sun, decadent food and Port wine, relaxation, culture, or exploration or all of the above, you will find something to love in Porto.
I would recommend:
Getting the Porto Andante metro travel card if you plan travelling beyond the city centre (such as going to the local beaches). The Andante card can be used on Porto’s public transportation such as the metro and buses.
The price of the travel card depends on which zones you travel to. If you are going to get around central Porto, then you’ll probably need a Zone 2 card. The Airport is in zone 4.
