Food & Nutrition

Eating a balanced diet can be difficult while travelling, especially when you’re surrounded by amazing local foods that you just want to try as much as your stomach (and budget) allows!

It’s important to eat a healthy, balanced and nutritious diet in general – and doubly so while travelling to keep yourself healthy and reduce the chances of getting sick – nothing hinders your travel adventures quite like being ill.

Making a lovingly-made homecooked meal is always great, especially when it’s shared among new friends – nothing brings different people together like good food!

This is why we have created food recipes that are perfect for people like you wanting hassle-free, nutritious, and tasty recipes while on a budget, whether at home or during your travels.

Here you’ll find a variety of easy recipes that we hope you’ll enjoy making and add them to your culinary repertoire.

The approach to these food recipes is simple:

Create uncomplicated recipes for meals that use common and affordable ingredients, have easy-to-follow instructions, are relatively quick to make, nutritious, and delicious – and don’t need to use many utensils.

These recipes are perfect for most kitchens you’ll come across on your travels, whether it’s at a hostel (that can be hit or miss in terms of utensils and appliances available in the kitchen – if there is a kitchen!) or at an Airbnb.

As most recipes go, they are a blueprint, a guide to start you off in your culinary creations. It’s always great to experiment with different ingredients in the kitchen so I say go for it! If ends up being crap, you always give the meal to that scruffy-looking guy in the hostel who is living off the food from the free food cabinet.

Bon appetite!

Hot tip to make your travelling easier!
Have a kitchen recce before shopping!

Before going out grocery shopping, always check what’s available in the kitchen for you to use at the place you’re staying, whether it’s a hostel or Airbnb apartment. Check what’s available in terms of electrical appliances, utensils and basic shelf staples like oil. This will help you in making decisions in what to buy and what to cook.

Is there a can opener? If not, there’s probably no point in buying canned goods if you have no way in opening them.

Is there cooking oil? If not, you will need to unfortunately buy some if you need it for cooking.

Is there free food left by other travellers, such as pasta and rice? If so, you may not need to buy as much, or at all!
